The Associate Director leads, develops, and ensures that real-world evidence (RWE) generation research projects are resourced adequately and executed to the highest standards. The Associate Director accomplishes this by supervising lead Data Scientists and giving expert advice in the development of and primary responsibility for the execution of Outcomes Research Statistical Analysis Plans. This research includes data management, programming, and statistical analysis of health claims, electronic medical records, and other observational data sources.
The Associate Director also keeps current on developments in the Biopharmaceutical industry directly and indirectly relevant to RWE such as: big data trends in computing and data warehousing; state-of-the-art statistical methodologies; programming techniques for large datasets; and regulatory agency opinions on RWE.
Main Areas of Responsibilities
Management of RWE CoE operations including resourcing, contracting of databases, and monitoring of analysis/programming standards.
Collaborate with key internal stakeholders, including GHEOR Strategy, Marketing Sciences, Safety, and Epidemiology groups to develop the analysis plan that will contribute to research objectives.
Establish relationships with key clinical and outcomes thought leaders that are critical to collaborative research. Participate in prioritized HEOR conferences and play a key role in communicating key outcomes research findings.
Department and corporate initiatives related to data sciences including input into IT infrastructure, data sources and warehousing, and industry trends.
Performance reviews and coaching of direct reports. Responsible for direct supervision of data scientists within the RWE Center of Excellence.
Strategic Responsibility- Accountability for execution and timeline management of RWE research projects. Primary management level for determining resourcing for RWE research projects to allow optimal execution of programming and analysis of Real-world Data. Primary hiring manager for RWE Center of Excellence personnel.
Business Expertise- Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry from drug/device development to product lifecycle.
Problem Solving- Expert problem-solving experience for both scientific problems as well as business issues.
Nature and Area of Impact- Input to empirical evidence of product value in real-world settings.
Interactions/Interpersonal Skills- Solid interpersonal skill with capabilities and experience in supervising others, both directly and in a matrix environment.
Advanced training or expertise in at least two of the following areas:
Real world/observational studies
Comparative effectiveness research
Health economics and/or outcomes research
Knowledge of data warehousing systems and techniques
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong critical thinking skills
Excellent attention to detail
At minimum 5 years of experience in HEOR/Real World Evidence coupled with a min. of 8 years applied professional work experience.
Master's degree in statistics, computer science, economics, mathematics, or equivalent quantitative-oriented program of study, PhD preferred.
Alternative, a combination of pharmacy or medical training with advanced quantitative training.
