The Department of Clinical Pharmacy’s mission is to advance the precise, safe, and effective use of medicines to improve health through excellence in patient care, education, research, and public service. The philosophy is to provide evidence-based care that optimizes medication use across all health care settings. An integral unit to the Department of Clinical Pharmacy is the Medication Outcomes Center (MOC). The mission of the MOC is to conduct state of the art evidence-based, medication-related research to inform decision-making processes to enhance medication safety and patient outcomes while containing the cost of care.
The University of California, San Francisco, School of Pharmacy in conjunction with the Medication Outcomes Center is pleased to offer a Post-doctoral Fellowship. The Fellowship program is two years in duration and designed to develop health outcomes research-focused scientists, with an emphasis in health economics and pharmaceutical economics and policy, who seek to work in managed care, health policy, government/public service, the pharmaceutical industry, or academia.
Scope The fellow will collaborate with members of the health economics and outcomes research communities at UCSF. Fellows will develop skills in health economics, pharmacoeconomics, patientcentered outcomes, and quantitative research. Fellows will have the opportunity to attend seminars in health economics and outcomes research methods, pharmacy administration and pharmacoepidemiology. Activities are tailored to fellowship projects and may include: reviewing and writing research protocols, cleaning and managing large datasets, performing advanced data analyses and hypothesis testing using large health datasets. Ultimately, the program seeks to enhance the fellow’s knowledge of scientific literature evaluation, research design, pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research while providing training and experience in these fields. Pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research training will include economic evaluation studies (e.g. cost-utility analysis, costeffectiveness analysis, cost-benefit analysis) design and methodology. Fellows will develop an understanding of how pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research methods can be combined to evaluate cost-effectiveness of alternative therapies and services and to inform decision making process. The fellow will have opportunities to publish and/or present data at professional meetings. Requirements The fellow must be a graduate of an accredited doctoral program with a PhD or equivalent degree in biostatistics, economics or epidemiology. The fellow must have strong statistical and analytical skills and prior experience working with large datasets. Prior coursework and/or clerkship or work experience in biostatistics and/or econometrics is desirable.
Salary and Benefits The annual stipend is competitive with NIH fellowships. Benefits include medical and dental insurance. In addition, vacation, sick and professional leave are provided.
