The Associate Director, Market Access & Reimbursement serves as the global lead for Market Access strategy and implementation for Baxter’s Global Renal Care Business Unit and serves as a critical member of the broader Renal Care Global Marketing team.
The key objective of this role is to develop and implement Global Renal Market Access strategies and plans to ensure that Baxter’s products and therapies are available to patients by addressing key adoption barriers, and ensuring these therapies are appropriately priced and reimbursed.
Accountable for the pricing guidance, reimbursement and access (PRA) strategy for activities related to “preparing for launch”, including to integrate payer value messages into clinical and evidence-base assessments and evaluations for Global Renal Care pipeline and indications. Leverages clinical understanding, expertise of Evidence Based Medicine, alongside deep global payer knowledge and competitive insights to shape HEOR data generation plan.
To accomplish this objective, the global lead for Market Access & Reimbursement works collaboratively with Global Medical Affairs and GHEOR to generate and synthesize economic and clinical evidence, Regional Market Access teams to support regional and country market access strategies, with Pricing teams to ensure value of Baxter’s therapies are considered in pricing, with Health Policy and with Marketing teams around the world to ensure Baxter payer value propositions are well understood and translatable into messaging used by country-based commercial teams.
The individual in this role, shall be key in helping establish a strong global Market Access & Reimbursement function, including supporting people, processes and infrastructure, advising Regions and Countries in their Market Access priorities, while delivering targeted results. Raises the overall organizational awareness and insights of the environmental changes ahead and implications that payers will increasingly have in the business.
Key deliverables: Global payer value propositions aligned with the product’s total emerging value proposition (healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses), payers, and patients) and the product’s target product profile.
Collaborates with Marketing, Medical, Region Market Access and Pricing teams, and others to develop creative Renal Care Market Access strategies that enable adoption and value capture for new and existing products
Synthesizes various clinical and economic evidence and other supporting information to create compelling value propositions for new and existing Renal Care products
Converts value propositions into usable tools by writing critical Market Access documents (e.g., value dossiers, tender dossiers, etc.) to be used globally
Directs payer and patient research activities to understand stakeholder requirements, key healthcare policies for chosen products/therapies, and health technology/assessment hurdles in global markets
Drives the development of an HEOR data generation plan and directs the execution of it
Provides input into clinical evidence generation strategies and plans
Looks at innovative ways of contracting Baxter’s therapies including pricing guidance associated with our value proposition

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s in Healthcare discipline or Health Economics or Market Access
Multi-disciplinary experience at least 8 years and functional expertise should include depth in a healthcare area such as government affairs/public policy, pricing, reimbursement, health economics
Experience working in an international or regional environment preferred
Language requirement: English, other language an advantage
Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel; experience in working with digital tools is a plus
Excellent communication skills, strong oral/written presentation skills
Direct payer experience and/or experience in product commercialization desirable
Understanding of strategic pricing and contracting preferred
Understands the Global payer environment, including coverage and reimbursement, pricing and contracting, formulary management, health technology assessment, and payment policy
Capable of influencing the strategy, scope, and structure of evidence generation plans to support a product/therapy
Able to review clinical and health economic literature, including clinical trial design and results, and pharmacoeconomic studies to understand implications for payers and customers
Skilled at creating compelling written communication that synthesizes often-complex information into clear and convincing value propositions with structured and data-based supporting arguments
Able to communicate and work effectively in teams that span across many functions and across cultural and geographic boundaries (International experience)
Able to conduct landscape analysis of external pricing and reimbursement environment and deliver assessment with a recommended course of action
Capable of managing projects and leading multiple cross-functional stakeholders
Willingness to further develop skills across Market Access, HEOR, and marketing competencies
Is forward-looking and brings an “outside-in” market access perspective to anticipate trends in pricing and reimbursement systems and challenge internal viewpoints
Brings the payer’s perspective into the GBU
